OUR RESEARCH

Highly effective treatments exist for anxiety and related disorders, such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP). These treatments relieve enormous suffering and impairment caused by anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders in children and adults. There is still a lot we don’t know about anxiety, and unfortunately, many individuals who might benefit from these treatments don’t get the help they need, either because they don’t have access to a therapist who is trained deliver evidence-based treatment for anxiety, or due to treatment costs. We believe that everyone should have access to effective treatment for anxiety. Our hope is that through this research, we can better understand the nature of anxiety and develop the most effective ways of treating these disorders. Our current research studies seek to address some of the following issues:

  • We are learning more about how computer-based programs may help people with anxiety with minimal assistance from a therapist.
  • We’re also working on developing programs to help equip people with the CBT tools that they need to fight anxiety, and we are learning more about how these programs affect the brain.
  • We are also examining anxiety and brain development in teens, as well as understanding the effect of a computerized training program on anxiety.
