What is Attention Training?

brain

Attention training is something you can use to train your brain to pay attention to certain things. You can do this by directing your attention at something in particular – eventually you will become better and better at paying attention to certain things and not paying attention to others.

Why does it matter?

not paying attention

Learning to control your attention is a very valuable skill! If you train yourself not to think about bad things, and only to think about the good things, it can make you happier and less worried. Just practicing paying attention is also very helpful for when you need to focus your attention like at school or when you’re playing a game.

Mindfulness

mindfulness
Our program has some similarities to mindfulness programs. Like in Mindfulness training, it helps you to focus your attention for short periods of time weekly. The practice of mindfulness has shown that focusing your attention can help you calm down and relieve anxiety and stress. To see more about mindfulness training, check this site out.

How can I do it?

The game you’re playing as part of this study helps you to train your attention.
When you play the game at home twice a week you’re practicing how to direct your attention at certain things. In this game, you are told to select either the left button or the right button depending on if the game showed you an E or F.

It’s all about getting faster and faster at responding, and the way to do that is to know where to look before the letters even pop up! You’ll know where to look because of certain clues that will show up on the screen to help you. The clues will tell you where the letters will pop up (either in the same place or a different place as the clues.)

This will all make better sense as you play the game!

Okay, How do I play?
